Las Victorias
This 100% organic cacao comes from the Pacific coast of Guatemala, in the region known as Las Victorias, and was grown by indigenous Mayan farmers who practice permaculture principles. Following fermentation and sun-drying, the cacao was then brought from “bean-to-block” by our partner women-collective of single-mothers who lovingly roast and hand-peel each and every bean. Tasting notes are often said to be EARTHY, with FRUITY and NUTTY hints that finish in your mouth. Energetically, this cacao is grown near active volcanoes, leaving it more strong and masculine in nature.
Río Dulce
100% organic cacao from near the coast of the Caribbean Sea in Guatemala, growing harmoniously along the Rio Dulce (Sweet River.) All of our Cacao empowers the native people here, as it is grown by indigenous Mayan farmers who practice permaculture principles in an “Earth-first” initiative. Following fermentation and sun-drying, the cacao was then brought from “bean-to-block” by our partner women-collective of single-mothers who lovingly roast and hand-peel each and every bean. Tasting notes are CARAMEL, VANILLA, FRUITY and FLORAL. Grown near a flowing river and the open sea, this Cacao is often said to be more energetically soft and feminine in nature.
Suchitepéquez
The name that is hard for everyone to pronounce! 😉 “Suchi” as we like to call it, is the most “feminine” of all 4 origins of cacao we carry. This is because it is grown by ONLY WOMEN. (The only farm we have ever seen that is completely owned and operated by women.) It is then processed by the Holy Wow women’s collective and so only touched by women throughout the cacao’s life-cycle. This cacao is grown near the coast and has a Pacific Ocean and salty-air influence, while also being close to the firey-energy of volcanos. Additionally, this cacao is the only origin we toast directly over wood fire, for a flavor profile of SMOKEY, CEREAL, SPICES, SALTY.
Alta Verapaz
Our “community” cacao. This origin is the only non-single-origin we hold, as rather than being grown on one contiguous piece of land by the same farmers, soil and micro-climate, this Cacao is a collection of 75+ micro-farms across the department of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. This beautiful project is the out one of a mission to not let cacao go wasted that is not produced in large enough quantities on small family plots of land, but rather to bring it all together at one central collection point and give everyone a place to bring their cacao and be paid well as a form of subsistence in these rural areas. This cacao is very FRUITY and FLORAL, and aside from this, has the most wide-spectrum flavor-profile due to it being a mixture of cacao from many different growing conditions.
El Mestízo
“Our 3-Origin blend!!! El Mestizo,” is Spanish slang for, “a person of mixed race/ancestry.” While this can in some cases be considered derogatory, we are reclaiming this word to describe the coming together of our 3 origins of Cacao into one blend. This flavor profile is refined and balanced. While it is smooth like water, it is also pronounced with earth and fire. El Mestizo had notes of citrus and flowers, but not too fruity and zesty to be sour like some cacao can be. Try it and celebrate the coming together of different peoples and places, that are all from the same origin… PachaMama!
